
Racing to Walthamstow
The three wolves on this badge are the symbol of the Walthamstow Speedway
Club. Motorbike speedway races were very popular during the 1940s and
1950s. The headquarters for the Walthamstow Club were based in Brunner
Road. The actual races took place at Walthamstow Stadium.
Walthamstow Stadium
Walthamstow Stadium was founded by William Chandler. It opened in 1933.
The stadium was home mainly to greyhound racing, which was successfully
introduced into England from the United States. Speedway racing was also
very popular and an exciting sport to watch. It attracted both men and
women spectators.
