The 'Red Booted' Philantropist

by Alan Wylie

My dad,Robert Wylie, worked as a Senior Social Worker in the Housing Dept in Wood Street from 1976 untill he retired a few years later.

He created the first Housing Social Work Team in the UK and was activelly involved in the voluntary sector and politics in Waltham Forest. He was also heavily involved in the Radical Social Work movement and international left-wing politics in general.

He died last year but I'm sure that the memory of him cycling around Waltham Forest on his green bike wearing a velvet brightly coloured suit and red boots will live on.
