E4 Chingford, Chingford Hatch, Friday Hill, Hale End, Highams Park, South Chingford

"We actually lived over a disused fish shop. It makes me laugh when I think about it now. Because there was the marble slab where they put all the wet fish, it was raised by just ordinary bricks, you know, there was just ordinary bricks there, but of course there was this big marble slab. And when we first all went to live at Highams Park, because the shelter was so bad, and we couldn't use the shelter, we used to sleep under this fish slab. So I mean if anything had happened, when you think about it, if a bomb had fallen, the fish slab would have fallen down on the top of us, because I mean those bricks wouldn't have held it up. We would have all been killed anyway."
