Family History From Herbal Hill, Clerkenwellby Ms Tufano |

My uncle Razzi (Erazzmo) Tufano has died. He was the youngest of five brothers. My dad was the third, Razzi was ''the baby.'' He is kinda compared with my son Alfonso in as much as he is the fifth of five brothers. Razzi died of a heart attack aged 67. He was such a lovely man, my mind is flooding with memories of him. I just do not know what to do, i've lit some candles and will pray for him. I can't believe he's gone so suddenly. |

When my dad died I felt his soul enter the room and it kissed me goodbye on the lips, it reminds me of that night my dad died, as Razzi was so much like my dad, but he has not yet come to me as a spirit, I will tell you if he does. Half of this may make little sense as I am shocked. |

Razzi would stroll along Theobolds Road looking over Clerkenwell. He grew up in Herbal Hill where the new post-modern Guardian is, on that very site in that narrow strip of a lane was his old house which he shared with my dad and his brothers, just opposite the old Mirror building. Where the new Guardian building is where Razzi lived in a slum dwelling, with rats in the basement and a man chopping wood on the landing, crammed in like sardines. |

I saw Alfonso tonight, the second eldest brother, who gave me the story of old Clerkenwell. He was very strong with just an ounce of tenderness as we said goodbye. I'm so emotional, I just really loved him, and one gets to realise as these things happen that soon it will be me...I look forward to it in many ways, to meet up with all those who have passed over, but please God let me see my children before I die. |
Razzi was an ash-felter, a man you may of passed in the street, but he was my uncle, short, stocky little chap, a bit like Bob Hoskings and Danny DeVito, who loved to read the newspapers and eat Italian made meals from Sainsbury's. His mum made handmade Ravioli in the 1950's. Handmade! |
I just want to sit and remember him and share with you what a lovely soul he was, he was from a period of time so unlike these, a beautiful time...a time he would trace on his walks back into Clerkenwell, full of tales from his childhood, he had a view of everything and a tale about every building, even Alfonso said tonight how he would love to still live round there. Uncle Tony (Antonio) shared a flat with him, I have not spoke with him yet but he must be as shocked as we all are, Frank my brother came hammering on the door...this morning to deliver the sad news. Tony must be very sad. |
It's so strange how people just passaway...and leave so many thoughts. Walking back through Clerkenwell is always a tapestry, and Erazzmo helped me see it as it once was, where it is ever changing, where I can't wait to be old and stooped, and tell those Clerkenwell tales like my dad and my uncles did. |

i feel so sad, in such pain, it's like he has gone and God tells me to move closer to the next level, to the kingdom of heaven...it's you soon he tells me... Razzi has been taken...that's your warning God says...Razzi's with us now he tells me, it's not your time yet says God, but be ready... I hope he's okay where ever Razzi's gone...i wish I wasn't so sensitive. I wish I would have seen him before he went. I wish I could ooze emotion from my fingers onto this page to pour out my feelings so as they could be felt, I wish that everyone would stop and say, Razzi died, and that I could tell everyone what he was like, and that there was a news flash and the TV people were all talking about him. Only if I could have said goodbye...I thought he'd live for many more years...and tonight as I close my eyes to sleep, he will be there in spirit, he will visit me tonight, and I will say to him I am so sorry we never got to say bye Razzi. |
