Madeline Chambers "When we came here there was no electricity, only gas in here. And there was no lighting at all in this room, so they must have just, they used candles, this was the front room again that people didn't use, only on high days and holidays, and they obviously just used candles in here. There was a light there on the wall. And one in the other room there, which was used as a scullery at that time. And of course the first thing was to put the electricity on, yes. And upstairs there was only one, in the front room there was one gas light on the wall between the two windows. And the two back rooms didn't have any electricity in at all. Only on the landing there was a gas light again, none downstairs, only that one on the upstairs there." |
