Jewish community in London
Thousands of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe had settled in east London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After the Second World War, they began to move from the overcrowded East End to the more spacious suburbs of north-west London. Today the areas of Golders Green and Temple Fortune, and those further north in Hendon and Edgware, have large Jewish communities. There are many shops and restaurants selling kosher food as well as synagogues, Jewish schools and Jewish welfare services to serve the community's needs.
Henry Grant worked as a photographer throughout London. He specialised in using photographs as social documents to record daily life in the city.
