Greenwich was an exciting place in the 50s. The exquisite Maritime museum seemed then to be completely unpolluted by people and you could wander through a mysterious past without facing artificial attempts to grab your attention. |

Greenwich park was uncontaminated too and was itself a fantastic, different world about that time the Narnia books came out and there was definitely a connection in our imagination. Here is a picture of the Lodge in Greenwich Park sent 102 years ago but capturing the The feeling and look of the park in the 1950s. |

I was horrified this year to see the gates of this world hung with adverts for artificial butter while hordes of people waddled and squeezed their ways through the gates at the start of the utterly pointless London Marathon. |
