Fazal Saleemi "I could not find an Asian in Lewisham in those days. There was one Asian Sikh with the turban. And I sort of almost jumped towards him so that I could speak my language and say hello to him. And I made friend with him. I didn't have a car and I wanted to get some chapatti flour and other things, because we were used to buying larger quantities. And he had a car and from then on I used to seek his help to transport these few things, provisions, for me. And we became friends and we used to go to each other's house. It was very very rare to see Asians in Lewisham." |
