First Black Doctor in Peckham

Harold Moody was born in Jamaica on 8 October 1882. He studied medicine at Kings College in 1904 and was astonished by the level of racism he encountered. He often could not get lodging and was refused a job in a hospital because of his colour. He was also a Reverend and set up a civil rights movement called the League of Coloured People which campaigned for equality in work and the armed services.
