1958/9 Abbey Wood. I lived in Boxgrove Road for a while, a house on a big new council estate. Lesnes Abbey was/is set in a wooded hill. It was a very pleasant place which like many of the green spaces of south east London including the greened over bomb sites awaiting redesecration, fed the imagination. Not far away too was Borstal Woods. I am not sure why they were so named but they seemed darker to me than the woods surrounding the Abbey but that may be because of the name. |
