Croydon Canalby Barbara Dow |

Did you know that in Anerley, London SE20, the only remains of the Croydon canal can be seen to this day. The Canal linked Croydon to the Thames, but unfortunately, by the time it was completed, trains had come into being and the canal was little used. The canal was drained, and in many cases, train lines were layed in what had been the canal base. The only stretch preserved is in Betts Park beside Anerley Hill, and is filled with water which is much enjoyed by local wild life. |
