Cinema lamp

Glamour at the cinema

The Regal Cinema in West Norwood in Lambeth was built in the late 1920s. Its decorations are in the Art Deco style of the period.

Typical feature

This lamp is made of glass panels set into a metal frame. The frame has been painted gold. Hanging over the main staircase, the lamp contributed to the cinema's glamorous style which was typical of the 1920s and 1930s.

Cinema at Madame Tussaud's

The Regal Cinema was built by architect F. Edward Jones. It opened on January 1930. Jones was also responsible for the original cinema at Madame Tussaud's waxwork museum on Marylebone Road.
