This notice advertises a public meeting given by the Women's Social and
Political Union (WSPU). The meeting was held at the Presbyterian Hall in
Brockley on 25 March 1909.
Why get together?
The meeting was to mark the release of suffragette Caroline Townsend from
Holloway prison. She was imprisoned for one month for taking part in a
protest on behalf of women's rights at the House of Commons in
Westminster.
Presbyterian Church
The hall was located next to the Presbyterian Church. The church was
situated on Brockley Road where it joined Wickham Road. The Presbyterian
Church possessed a fine, tall spire which could be seen throughout the
area. Unfortunately, the church was demolished in 1968.
