Relic of the Great Wheel in SW5by Laurence |
|
I had thought that all trace of the Great Wheel had disappeared from the area but this is not so. The tube line which is now called the Piccadilly Line opened through Earl's Court in 1906 when the Great Wheel was still operating. You can see a raised motif of the Great Wheel along the edge of the blue canapy above the station entrance in Earl's Court Road. The canopy appears to date from this time. |
