Visit to Battersea Power Stationby Jae |
Like many people I jumped at the chance offered by the Serpentine's "China Power Station part 1" exhibition in Battersea Power Station - more for the opportunity to see the building than for the art. |
Despite various plans for 'redevelopment' it's in pretty poor condition - but still stunning. |
I went with a friend who grew up in the area. She'd never been so close before and could hardly stop herself from jumping up and down with excitement at finally being allowed in to these amazing spaces. |
Even though the roof is missing from the central turbine hall and the weather is doing its best, the place still has a rough beauty. |

We also loved this Georgian (?) building to the east of the site, also empty and heading the dereliction. It's not apparent in the architect's model for the new development plans, but I hope it won't get flattened in the headlong rush for 5 star conference centres. |
