1951 and December 1954.
Experience of renting
Until the late 1950s, renting one's house or flat was more common for many
Londoners than today. With increasing post-war prosperity, workers began
to be able to save for a deposit on new private housing, and owning one's
home became achievable for greater numbers of Londoners. The growing
availability of mortgages encouraged this trend.
