Clarendon Crescent |

Clarendon Crescent W2 no longer exists. It used to lie between Amberley Road and Bourne Terrace along with two other street called Woodchester Street and Cirencester Street. These three streets all disapeared as part of the slum clearence programme in the 1950s - 60s. My childhood and teenage years were spent living in Number 7 Clarendon Crescent. Everything we needed for our daily lives was contained either within these three streets or close by. |

Our schools were Senior Street Primary and Amberley Road Secondary, we played rounders in the street using lamposts and coats as bases. We could exchange a supply of used newpapers in the fish and chip shop on the corner for a bag of crackling. Maxi Webbers shop would sell you anything, including a "penny Tizer" this was served in a small fish paste jar. Clarendon Crescent featured in the Film "The Blue Lamp" and can be briefly seen in the car chase scene. |
