Using your Emergency Plan
How can you make your Emergency Plan work?
Emergency planning is not just a case of writing an Emergency Plan and filing it. The Emergency Plan needs to be:
- Updated regularly to reflect any changes to the organisation and political/environmental climate
- Communicated to all staff to ensure that they are aware of it and the important role it plays
In museums with few full-time staff, staff from other museums or volunteers may be called upon to help out in the case of an emergency, and these people should also be aware of the organisation's Emergency Plan.
Staff involved in emergencies may also need to be trained in their roles and in any activities that they may be required to carry out in these roles (e.g. manual handling, or salvage of objects).
