It is important to ascertain whether the object contains any hazardous materials, such as:

Hazardous materials can present health and safety risks. If any of the hazards above are presumed or present, you should ensure that a risk assessment has been carried out, and that the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used – for example, gloves or a dust mask. If in doubt, you should not touch or move the object, but consult a specialist or the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Objects containing hazardous materials, particularly asbestos and radioactive material, may have any movement restricted under legislation. It is important to be aware of this when assessing an object for movement.
