Risk Management in Transit (1 of 6)

In this section, the general risks posed to an object in transit are outlined, and some solutions are suggested. These risks range from physical damage, to the security of the object when it is outside of the store or gallery. Good planning will help to minimise these risks.

Physical risks

The physical risks to an object in movement often depend on how the object is packed, but they also rely on the decisions made concerning transportation and documentation.

These risks can be mitigated by providing adequate support and protection using packing materials and containers. Breakages can happen if objects are dropped or packed too closely together, so it is necessary to ensure that all handling is thought through carefully and kept to a minimum.
