It is suggested that pupils work in pairs or small groups, starting with the object pages. There is a specific question on each object designed to encourage children to work as detectives, looking for clues and collecting evidence. The biographical stories personalise the objects and provide specific evidence about the lives of individuals.
One page answers the specific question posed and provides more information about the object. The other gives information about a relevant theme. The thematic information is not intended to be comprehensive, but to act as a stimulus to further investigation.
Through working with objects in this way, it is hoped that pupils will gain an understanding of how to interpret them as evidence of life in the past. All the objects featured on this site are from our extensive collection, which you can see if you visit us.
