Our approach to learning

We offer a range of learning and development solutions to enable our people to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Our blended learning approach

We provide blended learning and development solutions to meet individual, team and organisation needs. We combine eLearning, instructor led courses/ workshops with access to a Learning & Development Library and Mentoring Programme. As part of the Performance Management Development process our people are supported by their managers to identify and create their own Personal Development Plans. We promote a variety of activities to enable our people to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Commitment to inducting new starters

We ensure that all new starters are provided with a solid induction into the museum at both organisational and local level. Our induction engenders full understanding of, and engagement in, the aims, services and values of the museum at the outset. Our Group Induction provides an opportunity to create connections early on across all levels in the organisation and gain insight into the broader workings of the museum. As part of our blended learning and development offer we ensure that all new starters have access from their first day to LEARNdinium (Learning Management System) where they can access the essential training and support from the outset of their engagement.

We offer a blended induction which includes:

  • 2 day group induction
  • Bitesize instructor-led training
  • eLearning

“The induction process at the Museum is the most thorough I have experienced. I had a ‘starter pack’ organised for me on our eLearning platform, with courses that suited my role and were considered key for me. A two full-day induction helped me understand the varied array of departments that form the organisation and allowed me to meet other colleagues. I believe that all the training opportunities allowed me have a much more comfortable start in my position. The several social events regularly organised by the museum for its staff (exhibition previews, quizzes, sport activities) made me feel part of the institution since day one.” – Lluis, Librarian

Management development

We are committed to ensuring our staff experience with excellent management. We run a management development programme to ensure that our managers are able to lead, manage and grow their services and their staff. We support our people who aspire to be managers by offering career development opportunities such as our Managers of the Future Programme.

"This year I have participated in the Museum of London’s Managers of the Future Programme. The programme has given me the tools needed to drive my personal and professional development whilst fulfilling my role at the museum. It’s great to work in such a supportive and encouraging environment."
