'The wedding dress of 1928'

Wedding dress ensemble by Norman Hartnell; 1928

An insight in to the bridal fashion of the 1940s

Join us for a discussion about skillful seamstresses, beautiful gowns, glamorous brides and wedding photographers living and working in London’s East End in the first half of the 20th Century. Find out about the Museum of London’s collection of vintage wedding dresses from fashion curator Beatrice Behlen, and take part in a conversation about East End weddings chaired by the published author Kate Thompson, who will also be launching and signing her new book 'The Wedding Girls' on the night. There will also be beautiful floral arrangements and a demonstration from Hybrid Flowers’ master florist Alan Simpson. The panel will include Kate Halfpenny, of Halfpenny London bridal, who will talk about her own love affair with vintage gowns, Hellen Martin, granddaughter of iconic East End street photographer William Whiffin, Edwina Ehrman, Curator of Fashion and Textiles at the V&A, and original East End bride Pat Spicer.
