The Low Emission Neighbourhood Urban Garden explores the challenge of air quality and what cities and citizens can do to make a difference. The Garden is a collaboration between the City of London Corporation, Museum of London and Citizen Sense as part of the City’s Low Emission Neighbourhood project.

Citizen Sense has carefully selected plants in the Low Emission Neighbourhood Urban Garden. Some of the plants in this garden are sensitive or have

bioindicating qualities in relation to pollutants, where they signal the presence of particular pollutants through changes in their physiology and appearance. Some of the plants absorb or channel pollutants through deposition and dispersal (especially particulates). Other plants accumulate and transform pollutants.

Citizen Sense is led by Dr Jennifer Gabrys and is based at Goldsmiths, University of London. Their research investigates the relationship between technologies and practices of environmental sensing and citizen engagement.
