Talking Point: Hair
What does hair and life in London mean to you? The Talking Point gallery is a place to discuss ideas & hear what our visitors think.
Please note that this display ran from 2 October 2019-13 February 2020 and has now finished.
A new museum needs new ideas. Our regularly updated Talking Point gallery gives visitors a chance to tell us what they want to see in the Museum of London, today and in the future.
This new update looks at Afro hair: a massive topic. We touch on issues of style, identity and community in London since the 1980s. Five hairdressers and entrepreneurs helped us to create this display by sharing their expertise. Their opinions are quoted on the wall and in the audio.
Through objects, films and memories we explore the rich history of Afro hair and hairdressing in London. Come on in, it's time for your appointment.
“Hair is important in our culture. For our identity. It plays a huge part.”
