    Stop 4: St Anne's Church

    Find out how thanks to a record of baptisms, births and deaths held by the church, we're able to get a snapshot view of the forgotten Black mariners who would have lived in this area during the 18th and 19th century.

    The penultimate stop takes us to 680 Commercial Road, the site of a 3 hour battle which took place on 16th May 1919 between local interests and Black and minority sailors.

    Our last stop is West India House. Now flats, this building stands on the site of the "old strangers home for Asiatic, Africans and South Sea Islanders" which was opened specifically to house minority mariners and seamen.
