Join the Museum of London for a two-week paid work experience placement!

How will the Museum of London support you?

During the two weeks, a dedicated facilitator and members of the Museum of London Engagement team will support you to gain new creative skills and training focussed on ‘how to create a community event’. You will also meet staff across departments and learn about different jobs and careers that exist in a museum.

How will the placement work?

The two-week placement will take place 19-23 February and 26 February - 1 March 2024.

You will be working four hours a day, 10am-2pm in person at the Museum of London, and one additional hour of working from home.

You will be paid a fee of £1,000 for the placement.

We will provide lunch and refreshments each day and we will reimburse expenses.

After the placement, there will be a reflection session in late March.

If you like, you can present the work you have created during your placement at our Annual Celebration on 20 March. If you choose to do this, you will be paid additionally for your time.

If you have any questions or access needs you would like to discuss, please email [email protected].

How to apply

The deadline for applications is: 9am, Monday 15 January.

To apply, please email [email protected] and answer the following questions in any format that you feel most comfortable with. We accept written answers, voice recordings or short video submissions.

Make sure to include your name, age and the best way to contact you.

  • Do you live in Islington?
  • Are you currently in employment, education or training? If so, please state which.
  • Where did you hear about this opportunity?
  • What creative activities do you enjoy? Think about what kind of art interests you and why, e.g. taking photographs of your local area because you are interested in local history.
  • What skills and experiences do you want to gain from the two-week paid placement? Think about skills you want to develop, whether that’s something practical like editing a film or something like gaining confidence in talking about your experience in interviews.

Make sure you add as many specific examples as you can to your answers so we can understand more about your interests and what skills you want to learn.

A testimony from Mercedes, one of the participants on the Black Heritage London young producers programme 2021/22:

"As a Black Heritage London producer, I learnt how varied the roles of museum staff are; from bioarchaeological lab work to interacting with visitors, so much goes on behind the scenes to keep the wheels turning."
