Shoe

Date: late 1300s

During the medieval period children's shoes were similar to those worn by adolescents and adults. The only exceptions were the exaggerated, long, pointed 'poulaines', which were worn only by adults. This child's ankle-shoe dates to the late 1300s. It is fastened at the front with a leather thong. It was found at Baynard's Castle Dock, near Blackfriars, London.
