Jug

Date: early 1300s

Mill Green ware was made at the kilns around Mill Green, Ingatestone Essex from the early 1300s to the late 1400s. Undecorated and unglazed floor tiles and domestic ware was made for local use but the fine ware, such as the jug on display, was sold in London, Essex, Kent and Hertfordshire. During the period from 1270 to1350, Mill Green wares accounted for between 10-20% of the pottery used in London. Typically the fine ware is hard and smooth, with an overall white slip coating and green glaze.
