Access and enquiries

During the current period of uncertainty, access to museum's collections and answers to enquiries may be delayed. Please check our homepage or social media accounts for the latest updates.

Want to visit our collections to find out more, book an appointment or contact an archivist? Most of our collections are accessible. Contact us to arrange a viewing.

Contact us for:

  • information about our collections
  • research appointments to examine objects not on display
  • help in identifying objects found in London.

Most of our collections are accessible through a research appointment, available on Thursdays only, with at least four weeks’ notice. There may be restrictions, usually due to the nature of the object or staff availability.

Research visits

Researchers wishing to study objects or records in our collections should make an appointment at least four weeks in advance. Find out more about making an appointment or download a research visit request form (Word 150 kb, opens in a new tab).

Phone and email enquiries

Ask us about our collections or the history of the museum. We don’t have the resources to assist with enquiries about London's history, or to undertake detailed research on your behalf. We aim to reply within 20 working days of receipt, but are currently running a reduced service due to work on the New Museum project so complex enquiries may take a little longer.

Object identifications

We can only help with the identification of objects made or found in Greater London. If you would like to bring in an object for identification, please contact us to make an appointment. It is not always possible for us to provide object identifications via email.

The Museum of London does not offer a valuation service.
