FAQs – Museum of London Docklands birthday parties

Yes, you can choose between two options:

1. Exclusive hire of Mudlarks family gallery only
2. Exclusive hire of Mudlarks family gallery, plus hire of our party lunch room with food and drink from our selection

Our parties cater ideally from 0 to 8 year olds. This is based on the nature and suitability of the activities in the Mudlarks family gallery.

Up to a maximum of 20 children. Children are counted as those from 0 – 16 years old.

The Mudlarks family gallery is currently available as a standalone event on weekends from 10.10am to 4.45pm for 95 minutes. Hire of a party lunch room is an additional charge.

Up to 30 adults are allowed and they can go free. At least one adult per three children is required.

A member of staff is included for the duration of your party (including at the party lunch room if you have booked this). They will be present for health and safety purposes only.

You can arrive one hour before the party starts. The party cannot start earlier or finish later than stated on the booking form.

If you hire the party lunch room you are welcome to leave your items in there. Otherwise, you can bring them with you into the Mudlarks family gallery. Prams and buggies will need to be left outside the gallery.

The Museum of London takes no responsibility for any lost or damaged items.

You are welcome to book a party lunch room for a lunch meal and order food and drink exclusively from us.

Morning session (11am–2.35pm)

Mudlarks: 11am–12.35pm (95 minutes) followed by
Party lunch room: 12.35–2.35pm (2 hours)

Afternoon session (12.20–3.55pm)

Party lunch room: 12.20–2.20pm (2 hours) followed by
Mudlarks: 2.20–3.55pm (95 minutes)

Charges

£240 to hire the Mudlarks family gallery for 95 minutes with a maximum of 20 children.

£220 to hire the party lunch room for two hours. Food and drink is a separate charge.

Children offer – £6.50 per child

A sandwich, Pom-Bear crisps, a banana and a Pip Organic apple juice.

Adult offer – £17 per person

Tea and coffee on arrival and soft drinks with lunch, crisps, fruit bowl and a selection of fresh homemade sandwiches:

• Egg and cress with creamy mayo (v)
• Chicken and smashed avocado
• Classic cheese and pickle with Applewood smoked cheddar and Branston pickle (v)
• Roasted topside of UK Red Tractor beef, rocket and creamed horseradish
• Chargrilled peppers marinated in basil, garlic, balsamic and extra virgin olive oil with tzatziki (v)

You are welcome to bring in your own birthday cake.

Jugs of tap water, paper plates, napkins, plastic cutlery and paper cups are also provided. Drinking glasses are not allowed.

Please inform us of any special dietary requirements or allergies.

Food options are only available directly with our caterer, Bovingdons.

We offer three party lunch room themes: pirates, sea animals and mermaids. You can choose from one of them and we will decorate it all.

If you have any additional decoration you are welcome to put it up as long as it is not copyright protected e.g. Disney film characters, syndicated cartoons, etc. and does not require Sellotape, drawing pins or Blu Tack. Masking tape is allowed.

We will put away the decorations and any rubbish afterwards so you can concentrate on enjoying the party!

We are pleased to announce we can now allow party entertainers for either general party entertainment, face painting or balloon modelling.

If you are interested in this, please let us know and you may choose from our list of pre-approved party entertainers. Please note, up to three weeks’ notice is required for organising party entertainers.

Once you have successfully booked your party, you are welcome arrange some time with us to check the rooms. Please book this in advance so we can guarantee we will be available to show you around.

If you are interested in holding a party, please complete our website booking request form. We will be in contact with you within five working days.

If you cannot select the date you want, it means that it has already been booked, so please choose an alternative date.

Mudlarks only birthday party offer: once everything has been agreed and confirmed with us we will ask Box Office to contact you to arrange payment by telephone.

Mudlarks and birthday party lunch room offer:

i) You will reach agreement on the food and drink offer with Bovingdons

ii) Everything will be confirmed and agreed with us regarding the details of the birthday event.

iii) We will ask Box Office to contact you to arrange payment by telephone.
